How do I access my First Ideas Control Panel?

How do I find out what settings to use?

Log into your Control Panel and click on
Help / Email / Mailboxes

I have configured Outlook Express but I still can't send email

Some ISPs only let you use their SMTP servers and any other will not work. For example, ntl and Wanadoo have this policy. In such cases, simply use their SMTP server instead of the First Ideas one (eg smtp.ntlwortld.com). You will also need to remove the tick from the box "My outgoing server requires authentication"

Am I protected from email viruses ?

Our mail server virus scanning facility protects your mailbox from unwanted and damaging viruses. Virus scanning is enabled for all accounts by default. Should a virus be detected in an email bound for your inbox, the scanning facility will automatically block the mail and issue a reply to the sender, notifying them of the detection of a virus. Nevertheless, because new viruses are created each day, it is strongly recommended that you run anti-virus software on your desktop and laptop computers too.

Am I protected from email spam ?

SPAM Bouncer is a hosting Add On (additional charge) which operates on our mail server cluster to provide protection against unsolicited email, commonly referred to as spam. SPAM Bouncer can be fully configured to your own unique preferences, allowing full automation and real-time control over what you choose to allow into your mailbox. What is Webmail and how do I access it?

Webmail allows you to use send and receive email from your web browser, rather than from your email client (eg Outlook, Outlook Express or Thunderbird). Webmail is very handy if you need an easy way to access your email when away from the office.
