Ten miles up the A4, in Ogbourne St George
I build websites ten miles up the A4 from Hungerford, in Ogbourne St George. One person, 20+ years of building for the web, and one price: £30 a month (or £300 a year), which covers the design, the hosting, your email and every change you ever ask for.
Before any of that, you get a free preview. Tell me your business name and I'll build a first version of your website from what's already public about you. If you like it, we finish it together and go live. If you don't, you've spent nothing and I'll wish you well.
with your business name - gordon@firstideas.co.uk or WhatsApp. That's genuinely all I need to start.
of your new site and send you a link to look at on your own phone and computer.
Like it: we swap in your real photos and words, and it goes live. Not for you: no charge, no follow-up calls.
Nobody pays me anything until they've seen their website. I started doing it this way because it's how I'd want to buy one.
Everything a working business website needs - design, build, UK hosting, email at your own domain, domain registration, SSL, daily backups, and all the month-to-month changes: new prices, new photos, opening hours, a new team member, the odd extra page. Email the change in and it gets done. The full list is on the pay monthly websites page.
There are no setup fees and no surprise invoices. The one thing the plan doesn't cover is a full online shop - if you need ecommerce, I build those too, as a separately quoted project.
Most of my recent small-business work is across the Downs around Wantage - a church food bank, a glazing firm, a landscaper, an artists' foundry, a caravan dealer, and Wantage.com, a town site with over 1,100 local listings. The gallery runs from village organisations to a global gaming platform, all built at the same desk.
Hungerford is my nearest market town on the Berkshire side, and I already work for businesses there. If you run a business in Hungerford, Froxfield, Great Bedwyn, Lambourn, Kintbury or anywhere along the A4, you'd be dealing with someone twenty minutes up the road, not an agency inbox.
Trades, pubs and cafés, farm shops, salons, therapists, accountants, builders, B&Bs, clubs and charities - any business that needs to look proper online and would rather not think about websites ever again. If what you actually need is something bigger (a shop, a booking system, a platform), I quote those in writing, fixed, before any work starts.
First Ideas is me, Gordon Hill. I've been building websites for over 20 years - the first ones on dial-up. I live and work in Ogbourne St George, the business is a registered limited company, and the reviews on Google are at 5.0. When you phone, I answer; there's no account manager, because the person who designs your site is the person who looks after it.
The things Hungerford businesses actually want to know before they ring.
Ask a questionYes. Most of the work happens by email and phone because that's quicker for you, but coffee in Hungerford is twenty minutes down the A4 for me and I'm happy to come to you.
Around Hungerford and Newbury you'll generally be quoted a project price on enquiry - most don't publish one. Mine is published: £30 a month, everything included, and you see the site before you pay. For context, UK guides put a professionally built small-business site at £800–£3,000 up front, plus hosting and maintenance on top.
No. Rolling monthly, no minimum term - cancel whenever you like.
Your domain name and your content are yours, always. If you ever leave, you take your domain and content with you, plus a full copy of your files.
The normal life of a business: prices, photos, opening hours, staff, seasonal offers, an extra page now and then. Big new functionality - a shop, a booking system - is a quoted project, and I'll say so up front.
The preview usually comes quickly because I build it from what's already public about you - usually sooner than people expect.
Yes, and have for years - see the charity work.
Your business name is enough. A rough brief is enough to start a quote.
