A one-person studio on the Marlborough Downs
First Ideas is a web studio of exactly one person, in a village on the Marlborough Downs. No meeting rooms, no account managers, no sales team - just me, Gordon Hill, twenty-odd years of building websites, the Ridgeway out of the window and two cats asleep somewhere near the keyboard.
Working this way keeps the overheads near zero, which is how the price works: £30 a month for everything - design, hosting, email, domain, SSL, backups, and every change your business ever needs. You see a free preview of your website before you pay anything, and the 5.0 Google rating suggests people don't regret it.
Most of the work happens by email and phone, so it makes no difference whether you're in Marlborough or Mere. But local still helps - I can meet you, I know the patch, and your site gets written by someone who knows that Devizes and Swindon are different audiences. I work with businesses in and around:
Marlborough · Swindon · Devizes · Calne · Chippenham · Royal Wootton Bassett · Pewsey · Trowbridge · Salisbury
- and the villages between, which is where I live myself. There are dedicated pages for Marlborough and Swindon.
That's all it takes to start.
of your new website and send the link.
Yes: we finish it and go live, £30 a month from then on. No: it cost you nothing.
The plan includes bespoke design, all your pages, custom forms, galleries, maps, email at your own domain, UK hosting, your domain name, SSL, daily backups and unlimited day-to-day changes - the full list is here. Online shops and bespoke systems are quoted separately, fixed and in writing.
The gallery runs the whole range. At one end: food banks, glaziers, landscapers, artists, caravan dealers, village organisations. At the other: a multilingual launch site for a global gaming platform, healthcare and telehealth builds, and a town platform with 1,100+ listings. Same desk, same standards. If your Wiltshire business has outgrown its website - or needs a shop, a booking system, or something nobody's built before - that's quoted work, and I'll tell you honestly which side of the line you're on.

Different model, not different standards. Agencies carry offices, teams and account management; UK guides put their small-business builds at £2,000–£15,000. I carry a desk in a village. You're paying for the website, not the overheads.
The things to check with any monthly website - contract length, ownership, what happens when you leave - are answered plainly here: your domain and content are yours, the plan is rolling monthly with no minimum term, and if you ever leave you take everything with you, files included.
No - clients are across the UK and beyond. Wiltshire just gets the option of meeting me.
Yes, lots - see the charity work.
Every site is built so Google and the AI assistants can read and cite it - structure, speed, schema, Search Console - as standard, not as an upsell.
Your business name is enough.
